My Room

"Everyone carries a room about inside them. This fact can even be proved by means of the sense of hearing. If someone walks fast and one pricks up one's ears and listens, say at night, when everything round about is quiet, one hears, for instance, the rattling of a mirror not quite firmly fastened to the wall." -Franz Kafka

Thursday of Seventh Week

When I first heard that the Oxford term was only eight weeks long, I thought that didn't sound like nearly enough time and wished I had signed up for two terms, but now with the term almost at an end, I am looking forward to a break. The term has been incredible, and I have learned a lot and wouldn't trade it for anything (except maybe a kick-arse poker table), but it's been incredibly intense and after having felt overwhelmed for eight weeks straight, I sometimes wonder how I will finish the term, much less do another one immediately after.

Our travel week is coming up soon, and we have high hopes that that will rejuvinate us and we will return ready tp write a long essay and take a two hour exam. Positive thoughts.

Aside from waking up at 7:45AM to the sound of roofing, today was pretty good. Weather-wise, it's the nicest day we've had in a while. Most days have been snowy, rainy, and/or sleety. Today was still really cold, but it was sunny.

Christine is at the library reading her secondary texts for a paper she needs to write tonight. I will be reading short stories for my paper on loss of control in Victorian Gothic fiction, focusing specifically on mesmerism.

To everyone back at school, have a wonderful spring break. Relax for us.
