My Room

"Everyone carries a room about inside them. This fact can even be proved by means of the sense of hearing. If someone walks fast and one pricks up one's ears and listens, say at night, when everything round about is quiet, one hears, for instance, the rattling of a mirror not quite firmly fastened to the wall." -Franz Kafka

A different culture

In England, they don't use the terms restroom or bathroom. It's called "the toilet." There are also no drinking fountains anywhere. Can you guess what we were told when we asked about drinking water? "You can drink the water in the toilets."

I wish I could say that some students really misunderstood, but alas, no one did.

This is Shelly Beach, so it's not really anonymous.

One of my favorite questions from a desk worker at a hotel on one of my many visits to England was, what time I would like to be "knocked up". The knock-up is a wake-up call, but the image that came to mind when I was asked was rather alarming.
